Bathrooms are no longer just a room in your home where you only take care of your hygiene. A bathroom is now a place for unwinding and relaxing. Whilst it’s essential to create a functional bathroom layout when renovating, giving special attention to the aesthetic will help you create a tranquil bathroom design. Leaving you feeling relaxed, and those stresses will soak away.
Luxurious Bathroom Design
Marble is not everyone’s cup of tea. But there’s no denying it will give you a timeless, classic design. This blog will share two bathroom renovations recently delivered to Avocado Constructions clients.
I assisted clients, Michelle and Robbie and Tania and Peter, with their Brisbane bathroom designs. I incorporated marble in each design for their bathroom renovation project as they desired luxurious vibes.
Even though both bathroom designs are very different, each conveys luxury and sophistication. Delivering a serene atmosphere.
Marble Feature Wall
Both bathrooms had a mosaic tiled feature wall. A feature wall should always be the furthest wall from the door or the largest wall in the room.
Whilst there are windows on these walls, they don’t take away from the WOW factor.
It’s important to have both:
a) natural light
b) ventilation in a bathroom
We repositioned the window high on the feature wall in Michelle and Robbie’s bathroom. Originally Michelle and Robbie were thinking of using the marble fishscale tiles only in their bath and shower niches. I felt using the tiles only in these two small positions wouldn’t give them the desired effect they wanted. I saw how they had used a herringbone marble mosaic for their kitchen splashback. I strongly recommended we create a full feature wall using the Carrara Marble Honed Fishscale Mosaic tiles from The Tile Collective.
At Tania and Peter’s Mitchelton bathroom renovation, Tania knew she wanted a herringbone marble feature wall.
We initially looked at using standard subway tiles and presented 3D renders to help them visualise their bathroom. Not only for the benefit of viewing the aesthetics but because we were knocking down walls and extending walls to create a new footprint and we needed to give special attention to spatial planning.
You can see below how realistic 3D renders can be.
When I presented an alternative tile option; Elwood Matt Carrara Herringbone Mosaic Tile from Tile Cloud, Tania instantly expressed how much she loved these tiles. Simon, from Avocado Constructions, also commented that they were an excellent tile lay.
Sophisticated Bathroom Design
Michelle and Robbie went with matte black tapware, fixtures and fittings. From my friends over at ABI Interiors.
Even though the choice of black is bold, it doesn’t take away from delivering tranquil vibes. It enhances them, creating a sleek, sophisticated bathroom design.
We also used large 600x600mm Carrara wall tiles on adjoining walls and the floor.

… After
“From the moment that we met with Jade and Simon we knew they were the right company to design and build our bathroom renovation. They each provided us with assurance and guidance throughout our design and re-build process. Very communicative, with great attention to detail and a sense of care, is what we experienced. At the conclusion, Jade left some beautiful gifts, which she used to style the room, for us to enjoy! They executed our dream bathroom to perfection, and for that, we highly recommend.”

Bathroom Renovation Tip
Consider changing your swinging door to a cavity slider to free up more space within your bathroom.
What’s Not to Love?
Tania and Peter’s bathroom has luxurious vibes but in a more down to earth delivery. A clean, crisp palette teamed with the Carrara marble feature wall.
We used brushed nickel tapware as we didn’t want the tapware and fixtures to be a focal point. Brushed nickel brought some warmth to the room. The vanity quartz stone benchtop also has delicate marble veins. Creating cohesion in design is essential!
We incorporated light timber hues with a custom-built vanity with a stone benchtop from our cabinetmaker Tailored Interiors.
Not to forget the impressive, valued skylight above the shower to inject loads of natural light into the room. The photos of this Brisbane bathroom renovation speak for themselves.
“Jade did an amazing job presenting design concepts for our ensuite renovation—selecting beautiful tile samples for our new feature wall, designing our custom made vanity and the redesign of the whole bathroom to make it more spacious and luxurious. Her presentation of 3D renders was amazing and really helped us visualise the space given we were changing the layout of the bathroom completely. Thanks so much Jade!”
